What Is Aromatic Usage Of An Essential Oil?
First, you might be wondering, “What is aromatic use, anyway?”. Aromatic essential oil usage simply means that you smell the oils. See, that wasn’t too hard. 😉 You are going to be a doTERRA essential oil pro in no time at all! Aroma = smell.
How Essential Oils Work Aromatically
Essential oils have a wonderful and profound impact on a healthy brain. And of course, your brain is the big control center for your whole body. So when you use essential oils, your brain sends signals through your body in response to the aromatic oil properties. Let’s think for a minute how your body is set up. You have your nose, the olfactory bulb of the nose… and then RIGHT next to it is… the LIMBIC system which is, in easy terms… your brain! Okay, I apologize for the nerd geekery excitement there. I’m sort of kind of FASCINATED by how this all works. Just a teensy bit. 😉
Step by step breakdown how essential oils work aromatically
So to break it down completely. Here’s the step by step process that happens every time you inhale an essential oil.
The aromatic molecules travel up your nose when you inhale. Through the nasal cavity, they will travel both down into the respiratory system to benefit your lungs and up into the brain/limbic system. Now, this is the AWESOME part. The limbic system is a pathway by which essential oils may now quickly and effectively travel throughout the body. This is aromatic usage.
Bonus tip: Some essential oils, such as Frankincense, also are able to cross the blood-brain barrier. This is one reason why Frankincense is fantastic for brain health.
Experience For Yourself How Essential Oils Work Aromatically
Let’s do a quick experiment. Go grab your doTERRA peppermint oil.
Okay, have your oil? Now, this next step is tricky! I am going to ask you to… unscrew the lid. Haha! Got you! 🙂 Seriously, take off the lid and do not apply the peppermint to your skin or ingest. Just inhale. This experience will be an only aromatic benefit.
What happened? Do you feel any changes or different feelings in your body? Possibly more alert, possibly a feeling of cheer? You may also notice an extra open feeling in your nasal cavities! Hmm… What do you think? Is this cool or WHAT?
All that technical stuff I was telling you about earlier… That’s what JUST happened in your own body. Like… coolest, huh? 🙂 I warned you I would get a little nerdy! 😀
Essential oils and the natural power of your brain working in your body make aromatic usage a clear “win”!
