Tips For Getting Out Of Bed With Health Issues
When you have health issues, it can be a struggle to get out of bed. Maybe you’re spending a lot of time in bed, but you’d like to be able to get up more. Although it’s difficult, you can do this! I’m sharing my best tips to help.
These tips won’t require a lot of extra energy for you. If anything is too taxing, recruit a helper to get you set up for the next day. Use this post as a checklist.

Soothe MOrning Aches and pains With Deep Blue Stick
When you wake up you probably feel discomfort in your muscles and joints. That’s miserable because you lay there not wanting to move. And so getting out of bed may feel impossible. You know as soon as you move, it’s going to feel uncomfortable. That’s why I keep my Deep Blue Stick within easy reach right beside the bed on my nightstand. It’s to get ahead of the discomfort.

Diffuse Uplifting and Energizing Essential Oils
It’s common to struggle with motivation in the morning. Aromatherapy is a wonderful way to motivate yourself while you’re working on getting out of bed. My favorite morning essential oil blends are Arise, Cheer, and Motivate. Another option is an oil like Peppermint, which is invigorating.
The oils smell good which is soothing to your mood as you’re working on getting out of bed. But the highest quality oils (like doTERRA) also have health benefits. They help improve your mood and outlook for the day ahead. Some essential oils are even energizing!
Soothe Anxious Feelings About Getting Out Of Bed
Sometimes we struggle with getting out of bed because our feelings are too big for us. First of all, I want to send you a gentle hug through the internet. I’ve been there, and no matter what you’re going through, you deserve to feel safe and loved. So I want you to feel understood, and less alone.
Anxious feelings have kept me from getting out of bed, too. But there’s hope! Now I use some essential oils blends from doTERRA. The oil combinations are blended together for the emotional benefits. Snuggle under A Heated Blanket Or Throw
While your oils are diffusing, and the Deep Blue Stick is getting to work, there is something else you can do to help with getting out of bed easier. Warm soothing heat.
I used to use heating pads to make myself comfortable enough for getting out of bed. But then I discovered this lightweight heated throw on Amazon (affiliate link). I can’t be without it. When I’m having a rough morning, I turn on my heated throw and lay there for a little while to let the heat soothe my muscles and joints before attempting to get up.
As an added bonus, warm heat can help the Deep Blue Stick penetrate more deeply into your muscles and joints. If the muscle rub feels too penetrating, remove the heat, or use a carrier oil on your skin before applying the stick. Take your cozy warm throw with you when you move from the bed into a chair. I keep a spare near my recliner so it’s always handy!
Drink Water While Getting Out Of Bed
When our bodies are struggling with health concerns, they need the extra support of hydration! This includes getting out of bed. When you think that our body is about 60% water, it makes sense. Hydrating yourself first thing in the morning will help your body move easier throughout the day.
I like to fill a glass of water the night before, so it’s already at the bedside. Room temperature water may also be more soothing to drink, than something that is cold as you’re working on getting out of bed and warming up for the day.
Plan Extra Time For Getting Out Of Bed
While we want to spend every moment resting, sometimes you have to get out of bed before a certain time of the day. Maybe you have an appointment to keep, a child to get on the school bus, or other things in life that you need out get of bed for.
Getting out of bed is not always a choice. I find it helps me to give myself extra time and set my alarm a little bit earlier. Then if I need to give the Deep Blue Stick time to work, or turn on my heated blanket to warm up my muscles and joints, I can do that without running late.
Do What You Can to Rest Well Overnight
The struggle with getting out of bed is you don’t feel well rested. Just ten more minutes, or another hour in bed… but then the whole day has gone. And you haven’t gotten out of bed yet – and still don’t feel well rested. While everything can’t be solved right away, even if you improve your quality of sleep a little bit, it’s going to help you with managing getting out of bed the next day.
