Home Essential Oil Business – What’s It Really Like?
You see people having an at home essential oil business, and you’re kind of curious. I mean… what do they actually do all day? Do they actually sell anything or make any money? But you don’t want to actually ask them about it, because um…. super awkward!
What It’s Really Like To Have An At Home Essential Oil Business
Don’t worry, I’m here to tell you exactly what my day is like! I’m a work at home oil mom, so my day includes my kids! Which is actually one of the things I love most, doing my at home essential oil business while being there for them too. The time freedom and flexibility this offers is pretty fantastic! Yes, I do sell oils, and make money at it. 😉
How I Share Essential Oils
I share essential oils from online, which is pretty fantastic since I don’t even need to leave my house except for a quick run to the post office for samples, or things along that line. Online is certainly not the only way to share oils, but it’s what works for me! I train my team on how to share online or offline depending on their own preference! Love that flexibility! First thing, I get up and blog. My kids aren’t awake yet, and I sit down without interruptions. This is the best time to knock out larger tasks for my at home essential oil business. I write a new article or tweak. I create graphics or share blog posts to other platforms. In addition, I could create new classes for my free essential oil group, Exploring Essential Oils. Basically, I do my biggest daily task first and get it out of the way. This starts my day off on a positive and accomplished note. If everything falls apart from that point (with kids, it often does!), I’ve still accomplished a huge block on my daily to-do. You just need to define your largest task, and do it first, before other things interrupt. This keeps my stress levels way down. (Grounding blend helps stress, too…. 😉 )
Second, I check in with my Facebook groups. Yep! I get to play on Facebook with my business! Doesn’t sound too hard, does it? It actually isn’t. Which is exactly why I love it! This is a super fun part of my job and doesn’t feel like work. However, connections are extremely valuable, especially for someone who spends a lot of time at home. I love getting in touch with my team or new prospects and talking to them. I find getting to know everyone better to be quite enjoyable. It makes me feel great to be supportive of other people with their hopes and dreams! Yes!
Then my kids wake up, and husband heads into his office. So my focus will shift, depending on how needy and attention starved my kids are that day. They always come first. 🙂 So we spend time with our regular chores, and once everyone is happy and settled, I get to grab my phone and play with graphics to post into my groups, post to Instagram, and check in with my online friends. (Hey! It doesn’t have to be ALL work… that’s kind of the point, actually… or one of them. Time freedom is pretty cool!) This is also a great time to catch up on a few messages or make new contacts.
During the afternoon, I tend to get the kids happy playing outside and SNEAK inside to the laptop for a few catch-up tasks. Tweak a blog post before publishing, graphics, check Pinterest (um, yeah… your job doesn’t include Pinterest? Why not??? Mine does, in fact, Pinterest is a critical element!) and I also like to spend a little bit of time reading. Self-development is very much a part of the direct sales process, or should be! 😉 Afternoon is also a great time to make a quick run to the post office to mail samples.
I’m not perfect at this because it’s so tempting to grab a little bit of alone time. However, most evenings I try to let go of my business to focus on… Family time! I do post quickly into my groups at some point, though. It’s important to stay in touch with our online communities. It only takes a few minutes, and I’ve already planned the posts ahead, so it isn’t a huge deal. Also important to note, it’s probably perfectly fine to share a family selfie or something instead of all serious stuff in the groups!
Last daily task. Bedtime is my second favorite time to get a large block of work done. The kids are asleep, but it’s too early to go to bed myself. I tend to snuggle in bed with my laptop for an hour or so while my husband checks football scores on his phone beside me. Or whatever it is that guys look at on their phone. It’s cozy. Bedtime is my time to check in with my team and new prospects. I love that this doesn’t even feel like work! This is just checking in, and caring about people who I have friendships with. Answering a few questions, but mostly letting them know I’m here and fully supportive in their journey!
In conclusion. that’s my day in a nutshell! Sound like something you’d like to try, and make money while you are online? Contact me using the form at the bottom of this page, come join us over at Exploring Essential Oils, and let’s chat!
