Managing Your Mental Health During A Crisis
Let’s talk about how to manage your mental health during a crisis. With everything that’s going on all over the globe, is it any wonder that you feel stressed out, anxious, overwhelmed, or even isolated? You’re not alone, my friend.
I’ve been getting emails from my doTERRA team, answering questions in my Facebook group, and talking on the phone with friends and family to reassure them. In fact, those interactions are what inspired me to sit down today and write this note. My goal is to help you better manage your mental health during any crisis time.
What Is A Normal Crisis Response?
For the purposes of this post, a crisis is anything where you or the general public is stirred up about a situation that can feel threatening to your physical or emotional well being. Whether it’s a global health threat, an individual crisis in your family relationships, a complicated work situation, natural disasters, or even something yet unknown.
There are typically things in that situation which are out of your control. Or you are feeling fear of the unknown. Feelings like loss of control over the situation, or fear of the unkown, can cause a crisis response within your body. Your body’s crisis response affects your health at a deep and important level. That’s why it’s important to manage your mental health during any type of crisis situation.
In this blog post, I provide you with tools you’ll use to manage your mental health with natural solutions. All while working through your natural – and entirely normal – emotional response to a crisis.
What is your natural response to a crisis situation?
If you are feeling fear, panic, or a sense of loneliness, know this. Your natural response to a crisis is in good working order. There is nothing wrong with you. And there are options to help you find calm, ground yourself, and support your body as a whole.
This post it’s not to spread panic about any existing crisis, there is already enough of that. My goal is to help alleviate your sense of panic over your loss of control due to the crisis. And to help you rise above the sense of doom that pervades our society. Empower yourself with simple, and natural options.
You can’t control the crisis, but you can better manage your mental health during it. You want to take back your sense of control in your life. That sense of empowerment is entirely within your reach.
Natural options to support your mental health during a crisis
There are a variety of natural options for you to manage your health physically and emotionally during a crisis. I want you to feel a sense of hope. Although it seems dark now, there are better days ahead. My favorite tools are all natural options that you can use comfortably and safely from the comfort of your own home.
That’s what we’re going to talk about next! Are you ready?
Essential Oils To Support Your Mental Health
The first tool for managing your mental health during a crisis is the use of pure doTERRA essential oils. I’m a huge fan of using essential oils for the emotional health benefits. This is something I’ve proven over and over again. I’ve successfully used essential oils to manage my mental health in other times of trauma. And I believe these beautiful oils are a powerful tool for you to use, to take back your sense of control, and overcome feelings of fear.
Use Adaptiv Essential Oil System For Your Mental Health During A Crisis
This morning my friend messaged me. She asked if I had a blog post on oils for relaxation or to help through feelings of anxiety. That’s what drew me to write this post. But in the meantime I shared THIS POST with her. It outlines the benefits of our powerful essential oil system called Adaptiv.
You know that feeling where everything is spinning out of control? That’s a feeling we all get when there’s a crisis. It’s a normal reaction. But it doesn’t feel very good, does it?
Then the next thing you know you’re yelling at the kids or your spouse for something small that doesn’t really matter. Or you’re running to hide upstairs in bed because your chest feels tight and like everything it’s closing in on you.
When I use Adaptiv, it helps me rise above all those chaotic and panicky feelings. Restore your sense of well being a calm – even in the middle of a crisis by using this powerful essential oil blend. Adaptiv is carefully formulated to help manage a healthy and normal stress response in the body! That’s exactly what you need to support your mental health in a time of crisis.

Use Balance & Serenity Essential Oil Blends To Calm Your Feelings
The next thing I told my friend was to use our doTERRA blends Balance and Serenity together. Balance is a grounding blend. Serenity is our calming essential oil blend. There is a synergistic effect that happens with the combination of grounding, balancing and calming essential oils. You get the calming emotional benefits by using the blends together to manage your mental health during a crisis.
When my kids were little, I was under too much pressure. It felt like crisis mode all the time. All the crying, screaming, my kids demanding I do everything NOW… it was taking a huge toll on me. I was living in crisis mode, and it felt like I was going to break if something didn’t change. Have you ever felt like that?
The blend of Balance and Serenity saved us all! I started using it for temper tantrums. Instead of screaming unreasonably, they could show me what they wanted. Then I could help them, and we were all happier. When I put the Balance and Serenity on them, I also put a few drops on the back of my own neck. Using the oils yourself helps you better deal with life’s demands while staying calm.
Mix your own roller bottle of Balance and Serenity to keep with you at all times to maintain your calm feelings. Use equal parts of each essential oil to fill the roller bottle. Click here to order your roller bottle supplies from me.
How Essential Oils Work To Calm Your Normal Crisis Response
There is a calming effect that you will feel right away from using pure doTERRA essential oils. That’s because essential oils travel quickly through your body.
When you inhale the essential oil, you get an aromatic benefit from the essential oil molecules traveling up your nose, through the limbic system, and down into your lungs. If you use the essential oil topically or internally, the effect is even faster, because you are putting the oil directly on your skin where it can be absorbed into your bloodstream. Then your blood quickly carries the essential oils to the parts of your body that most need the benefits.
While managing mental health during a crisis, your body needs to be calmed, quieted, and brought back from a place of sometimes overwhelming stimulation. When your body is brought back into balance, that is called homeostasis. It’s the normal state of health in your body. Essential oils are a powerful tool to help your body maintain its normal healthy physical and emotional state.
Choose Your Mindset While Managing Mental Health During A Crisis
When you feel powerless and everything is spinning out of control there’s nothing more empowering than choosing your mindset. Choosing your mindset doesn’t mean ignoring everything, and it doesn’t mean there’s not a crisis happening. But it means that you are choosing how your reactions are affected by the circumstances around you. You’re taking back control by taking ownership of your mental health. That is powerful in situations where you may have little to no control over what happens, or fear of the unknown.
It’s healthy to work through your emotional response. Part of choosing your mindset will be working through your emotions around the crisis in a healthy manner. You can’t bury your emotions, they need to be acknowledged. That acknowledgement will help your body calm the crisis response you are likely feeling. You may have natural feelings of grief to work through. But don’t get caught up in the trap of “gloom and doom” as a long term mindset. There are still good things in life, even if it’s hard to see them right now.
When we choose to find joy in life, it doesn’t mean it will always be easy. But with proper tools to manage our emotions you can still choose joy. You can choose to be grateful for what you have in this moment. And appreciate what is good in your life.
Remember your internal compass of peace is powerful. Your internal compass that’s always looking for the good will keep you steady when everything falls apart. But you need to listen for it – especially when you are managing your mental health during a crisis time. Mindfully journal around positive things, and remember you always have the power to choose your mindset.
It’s okay to seek professional help
Sometimes in this do it all yourself world, it can feel shameful to ask for help. I’m here to tell you – it’s okay to seek professional help when you need it. The natural options in this blog post will help you, in most circumstances. But they are never intended to replace professional help when needed. In fact, you can continue to use natural options for your mental health, while enjoying the benefits of professional therapy.
Take Time To Take Care Of YOU!
Everything is about the crisis, and your news feed is filled with it. But what about your own physical and mental health? You need to stop for 10 minutes, and take care of your emotional response as well as your physical health.
Get off social media, and take a walk outside in nature. Cuddle with your loved ones. Journal, or work through a meditative exercise. Don’t forget about eating healthy – nutrition is foundational!
When you take care of yourself, you can better care for those around you, or any situations that fall under the umbrella of your command. Now that you’ve read this post, and empowered yourself, take a minute to share it with a friend or family member. You never know who needs this message.
