Let’s talk about how to manage your mental health during a crisis. With everything that’s going on all over the globe, is it any wonder that you feel stressed out, anxious, overwhelmed, or even isolated? You’re not alone, my friend.
I’ve been getting emails from my doTERRA team, answering questions in my Facebook group, and talking on the phone with friends and family to reassure them. In fact, those interactions are what inspired me to sit down today and write this note. My goal is to help you better manage your mental health during any crisis time.
What Is A Normal Crisis Response?
For the purposes of this post, a crisis is anything where you or the general public is stirred up about a situation that can feel threatening to your physical or emotional well being. Whether it’s a global health threat, an individual crisis in your family relationships, a complicated work situation, natural disasters, or even something yet unknown.
There are typically things in that situation which are out of your control. Or you are feeling fear of the unknown. Feelings like loss of control over the situation, or fear of the unkown, can cause a crisis response within your body. Your body’s crisis response affects your health at a deep and important level. That’s why it’s important to manage your mental health during any type of crisis situation.
In this blog post, I provide you with tools you’ll use to manage your mental health with natural solutions. All while working through your natural – and entirely normal – emotional response to a crisis.

You can’t bury your emotions, they need to be acknowledged. That acknowledgement will help your body calm the crisis response you are likely feeling. You may have natural feelings of grief to work through. But don’t get caught up in the trap of “gloom and doom” as a long term mindset. There are still good things in life, even if it’s hard to see them right now.
When we choose to find joy in life, it doesn’t mean it will always be easy. But with proper tools to manage our emotions you can still choose joy. You can choose to be grateful for what you have in this moment. And appreciate what is good in your life.
Remember your internal compass of peace is powerful. Your internal compass that’s always looking for the good will keep you steady when everything falls apart. But you need to listen for it – especially when you are managing your mental health during a crisis time. Mindfully journal around positive things, and remember you always have the power to choose your mindset.
It’s okay to seek professional help
Sometimes in this do it all yourself world, it can feel shameful to ask for help. I’m here to tell you – it’s okay to seek professional help when you need it. The natural options in this blog post will help you, in most circumstances. But they are never intended to replace professional help when needed. In fact, you can continue to use natural options for your mental health, while enjoying the benefits of professional therapy.
Take Time To Take Care Of YOU!
Everything is about the crisis, and your news feed is filled with it. But what about your own physical and mental health? You need to stop for 10 minutes, and take care of your emotional response as well as your physical health.
Get off social media, and take a walk outside in nature. Cuddle with your loved ones. Journal, or work through a meditative exercise. Don’t forget about eating healthy – nutrition is foundational!
