A Numbers Game vs Touching Lives
Do you want to make a lasting difference? It’s easy to get caught up in the numbers game. Today something made me think differently. My essential oil blog is how I reach out and touch lives. If I touch an individual life with my blog today, then that is a successful day at blogging. It’s a successful day as a doTERRA consultant, too.
If someone learned how to use a doTERRA essential oil though me, that is a gift. It doesn’t matter which one; Lime, Cardamom, the brand new Adaptiv line, Tamer for kids, Lemon… the list goes on!!! It’s all about making a difference. I love help someone get a doTERRA membership, because that opens up all the resources I have to offer to the fullest extent!

Numbers Game Questions I Ask Myself All The Time
Often, blogging can turn into a numbers game. There are a lot of things you can track. Did my latest post hit Google page one yet? What is the number of re-pins on Pinterest? Or what about shares on Facebook.
As bloggers, we can stress about if we have “enough” people trickling through our online sales funnel. Or focus on a number of sales through our blog. How many doTERRA enrollments did I have through my blog this month? And so on… It’s all wonderful and amazing. I’m all about celebrating every accomplishment. Which I do, often quite loudly! All of that, though? It’s not the reason I blog.
Numbers Game vs Touching A Life
Recently something happened. It made me think about why I really blog. The numbers game is fun, but my real “Why blog?” has nothing to do with statistics. My essential oil blog is how I reach out and touch lives.
Here’s what inspired me to write this blog post. I welcomed a new person to my Facebook group. She found me through my blog. Nothing too unusual. But one of my regulars made this comment on my welcoming post to the new member. It made me stop and think. Here’s what she said.
She said, “Welcome to the group (family)!“
So simple. Yet so profound. If that doesn’t just make your heart melt. That one of your people considers you family. Considers your Facebook group a family. It means a lot. Especially when you have worked endlessly to cultivate that exact type of direct sales team culture.
Jo Ann Found Me Through My Blog
Let me back up a bit. Jo Ann found me through my blog. She joined my Exploring Lavender Butterflies Facebook group. Then she attended online Facebook parties for my doTERRA business. In the online classes, I teach about how to use doTERRA essential oils for health and wellness related goals.
As Jo Ann learned more about the oils, she joined my team as a doTERRA Wholesale Customer. And yes, she is family to me. As are all of my Lavender Butterflies doTERRA team. But I have only met a few of them in person. The rest have met me online only. Isn’t that amazing? I touched lives and gained Wellness Advocates and Wholesale Customers for my doTERRA team. All through my blog and my online presence.
Breaking Down The Numbers Game vs Touching A Life
So let’s break it down. This is reaching out and touching a life, through my blog. Jo Ann is just one example. Through my blog, I have been able to touch multiple lives, and help many people learn about doTERRA. I am successfully sharing the gift of oils. Every day I get to help people, in the same way my mother in law helped me when she shared her doTERRA Lavender for my head tension.
Jo Ann could easily enter into my core team culture… through the computer. Amazing, huh? In the numbers game, Jo Ann is only one person. But within my essential oil community, that one person is like family. This is why touching one life can be so important. You don’t need to get caught up in numbers and statistics to make a profound difference to one person. I do get paid for what I do, but that’s a side benefit!
Why I Chose An Online Presence To Make A Difference
When my health challenges were too much to commit to sharing doTERRA essential oils locally, I knew I couldn’t give up. I feel so moved to share these oils and the help they have brought into my life. So I turned online. At first, it felt a little bit impersonal. I struggled to find my voice, and build my personal brand. I struggled with compliance. So much struggle too find my doTERRA family. To find my “tribe”, if you will. Jo Ann is only one example of those who have joined my little oils family. There’s Beth and Evyon, and many more.
Is it hard? Sometimes – especially if you don’t have a strong upline. Does it take awhile? Possibly, depending on how much time and effort you put into it. Is it worth it? Absolutely. I am so grateful to be a doTERRA consultant. It’s comforting to make a difference through my doTERRA story.
I’d Rather Touch Individual Lives Than Count Numbers
I’d rather touch lives than count numbers. I do count the numbers and track statistics because it’s fun, as well as good doTERRA business sense. But I’m going to bed with a smile tonight because of a successful online Epic Facebook party. At the party, I touched individual lives, and individuals thanked me for sharing my knowledge with them.
Statistics aren’t what make me feel joy today. But I smiled today, because of one person who contacted me to compliment me on a blog post. I teared up because of two people who told me how much the doTERRA cleanse helped them. A cleanse that I walked through with them step by step.
I was even inspired to write this post because of a team member who considers our doTERRA team to be like family. Beating the numbers is fun. But it’s in an individual life that I get to make a lasting difference. And that single life is so much more important than any other number.
Would you like to make a difference, too? Let me help you get started today as a doTERRA essential oils consultant. We’d love to have you join our oil family, too!
